The apocalypse, the great spiritual awakening, timewave zero, the winter solstice. Those are the various different events attributed to 21 December 2012. They are so varied, that the only conclusion I can come is that none will happen (except the winter solstice which is a pretty established event that takes place every year).
Now I'm all for a great spiritual awakening, as I read Terence McKenna's "The Invisible Landscape: Mind, Hallucinogens, and the i Ching" and José Argüelles's "The Mayan Factor: Path Beyond Technology" 10 years ago. They were exciting reads, thinking that all would be different in the blink of a moment. But looking back, why did I think I had to wait 10 years for something spiritually significant and life changing to happen? What I realise now is that it all happened to me back then, the biggest realisations of my life. It was my place and time, I was young and searching (eh hem..hippy alert). It was not some arbitrary time determined by a people long and gone (sorry Mayans, do wish you were still here to tell us all how ridiculous we are).
Everyone is on their own journey in life and 21 December 2012 might be too soon for some, too late for others. But if fits just right for you, good for you - awaken and dance and marvel and meditate and do whatever else a spiritually enlightened creature might want to do. Just don't tell me the Mayans prophesied it, it was all you.
And I feel fine...
